Three ways conversational AI could boost productivity

#artificialintelligence

Conversational AI is, at heart, a new interface in computing where the computer learns how to best work with a human rather than the reverse. While primarily focused for now on tele-sales, it has several other potential uses, including personal tutors or virtual bosses. Being a digital boss myself, this last may be particularly critical during the pandemic because those working from home can get distracted by things that might not have been intrusive when in the office. The thing that will make Conversational AI different from other AI implementations is understanding context. Were it tied to your browser and productivity suite, it would know if you're working or have gotten sidetracked by another social media debate.

AI to Help You Navigate the Workday - InformationWeek

#artificialintelligence

If you work for a big company, you know how frustrating it can be to keep track of all the different systems and applications you need to do your job. Where do you go for your expense reports, your performance review, your GDPR compliance training, your open enrollment? What if you haven't been to that particular application in several months and don't remember your password? Do you have to go to a different application or maybe open a service ticket with IT to reset your password for the first application? How many hours have you wasted navigating to the right places and figuring out again how they work?

The best free office suites

PCWorld

When it comes to office productivity suites, there is little doubt that Microsoft Office dominates. But despite its deep roots and reknown, as well as its comprehensive array of offerings, Office is not necessarily the best option for everyone. Parsing the ever-expanding list of features--many of which you'll never use--can feel overwhelming. For the majority of users, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint are all that's really wanted. Which brings us to the final issue: Office's hefty price tag. Fortunately, free office suites abound, many of which are compatible with Microsoft Office docs.

Future of collaboration technology: More Slack and AI, less email

#artificialintelligence

Somewhere between live chat and email, team collaboration tools began to grow. Enterprise teams needed more than email threads -- but not necessarily instant messaging -- to stay on top of projects and share files. As artificial intelligence evolves, experts remain bullish on its prospects to enhance productivity as enterprises set a course for the future of collaboration technology. Chat tools like Slack and Teams let employees carve out productive time on their terms, according to Tim Banting, principal analyst at Global Data PLC. While all parties need to be online to chat with instant messaging, collaboration tools let participants respond asynchronously as they toggle between tasks. Other key functions include real-time communications like video or online meetings as well as shared calendars and task management, he added.

Microsoft is adding new artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning capabilities to its Office 365 productivity suite aimed at simplifying complicated Excel spreadsheets, demystifying corporate Jargon and ensuring that its users never miss a meeting again. The company announced that it would be adding AI features to its productivity suite and to its search engine, Bing at an AI event in San Francisco. Microsoft has decided to infuse its core products with new intelligent technologies in an effort to make AI available to everyone to help users create their best work. A new service called Insights will leverage machine learning to automatically detect and highlight patterns in their data within Excel. This feature will first be made available in a preview for Office insiders that will roll out this month.

The best free Microsoft Office alternatives of 2017

PCWorld

Microsoft Office is the king of office productivity suites, but it doesn't inspire warm, fuzzy feelings in all users. Parsing the ever-expanding list of features--many of which you'll never use--can feel like stepping into a cockpit without a pilot's license. The ribbon interface, introduced a decade ago, has many fans, but others pine for the static menus of the early aughts. Fortunately, alternatives abound, ranging from web apps to freemium and open source desktop installations, many of which are compatible with Microsoft Office docs. We compared six of the most popular free office suites to see how well they replicate the most commonly used features of Microsoft Office. WPS Office 2016 provides the most Office-like experience of any alternative.
